While exploring Los Angeles, I had the opportunity (via a happy accident) to stay at The Line Hotel.
I am a fairly spontaneous person. I was in Los Angeles for the day and decided that I didn’t feel like leaving anytime soon. I told myself that I would check into the first hotel I stumbled upon. After perusing local street art, I found myself outside The Line Hotel. After my stay, I certainly didn’t regret the serendipitous encounter.
The Property | I thought that the grounds were beautifully maintained, that the layout was inspired, and that there was plenty to keep one occupied during the stay. With a gorgeous rooftop pool (a Los Angeles staple), a social bar in the center of the lobby, and a store on site that actually made me want to shop (Poketo housed more artistic inspiration than I could handle) there are plenty of options with which to fill your downtime.
The Room | The view alone is enough to merit a major “thumbs-up” for these digs. In addition to a view that reminded me of why I occasionally love Los Angeles, the decor and design of the hotel room was exceptional. It looked almost as if it was torn out of a local Urban Outfitters, but was equipped with enough technology and comfort that I still felt like an adult (nothing against Urban… but I like a touch of refinement to accompany my hipster-y ways). My laptop hooked up seamlessly, I was able to work and dine with a huge window as my backdrop, I slept like a rock in the oh-so-comfortable bed, and I liked the combination of the industrial (bare cement walls) with the spiritual (Aztec prints and crystals adorned every nook and cranny).
The Details | I’m a sucker for the little things. The hotel’s attention to detail knocked my socks off. Artisan paperweights, vintage fabrics tied in hobo-fashion around my room service order, spray painted succulent holders repurposed from milk jugs, and reading material that I actually took the time to skim… a blogger’s paradise.
The Food | The restaurant concept of “Pot,” The Line’s on site Korean restaurant, is playful and very California. The food was quite good, but a bit overpriced when viewed in comparison to the authentic Korean restaurants waiting around every Koreatown corner. I still recommend stopping in to enjoy the kitsch. I finished my night with some chicken soup and lemon (one of my strange addictions) in my room… I can honestly say it was the best chicken broth I’ve ever had. Props.
The Bottom Line | The Line is worth a visit… and a stay if you have the time. It’s everything Los Angeles should be about : culture | details | food | art | creativity | beauty
